The first day of the 2007 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final will have a familiar feel when Andy Roddick takes on Russia’s Dmitry Tursunov in the opening rubber at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon to be followed by James Blake facing Mikhail Youzhny.
Both match-ups also occurred during the nations’ last Davis Cup match-up in the 2006 semifinal in Moscow. Tursunov clinched victory for Russia on that occasion with an epic five-set victory over Roddick in the fourth rubber after Youzhny had defeated Blake in the second rubber.
Both Americans will have a chance for revenge in Friday’s opening rubbers. While Roddick has since defeated Tursunov, that is Blake and Youzhny’s only meeting to date.
