
Spain successfully defended the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas title
after achieving an unattainable 3-0 lead over Czech Republic
with victory in the doubles rubber Saturday in Barcelona.
Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco defeated Tomas Berdych
and Radek Stepanek 7-6(7), 7-5, 6-2, adding to victories for
Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer in Friday’s singles rubbers.
In front of a 16,000-strong crowd at the Palau Sant Jordi,
Spain won its fourth Davis Cup title – the sixth-best tally
in the history of the ITF men’s team competition.
